The Witch

Mary Smith was hanged in Kings Lynn on the 19th January 1616. A full account of her alleged spells and curses is included in A. Roberts’ ‘A Treatise of Witchcraft’. They were claimed to be true accounts taken from Mary’s neighbours. Most of them follow familiar motifs from witch stories told across Europe. This is an excerpt from one of them.
